Missionary Beat: December 8, 2013

Around the web today for stories of interest to future missionaries, missionary moms, returned missionaries, member missionaries, and missionaries of every sort and variety.

  • Kevin Beckstrom “Ice Fishers”– In the midst of a very cold early winter, we might ask how our missionaries are doing. This comic sheds some light on the situation.
  • Ryan Tobler “Major New Study of Religion Has Much to Say About Mormons”– This three year old study is suddenly starting to make the rounds on social media. Find out why. “In what might seem a paradox to those unfamiliar with Mormonism, study data also indicate that while many Mormons believe that there is a “true” religion, Mormons are also the most convinced of any group that those outside their faith — including non-Christians — can “go to heaven” or gain salvation.”

  •  “LDS Missionary Infographic” This stunning infographic from LDS philanthropies changed the way I see missionary work. What did you learn from it?

  • Sarah Petersen “Mormon Missionaries Shine Shoes, Teach Gospel in Harlem”– The humble service of these two missionaries in New York brought tears to my eyes. “We knew this time of year would bring a lot of opportunities to serve,” Elder Pickard said. “We decided to get together and set up a few shoe-shining booths and a hot chocolate stand so that we could not only serve people of Harlem, but that we might also have a few minutes to teach people about Jesus Christ and the spirit of Christmas.”
