Missionary Beat: January 17, 2014

Around the web today for stories of interest to future missionaries, missionary moms, returned missionaries, member missionaries, and missionaries of every sort and variety.

  • Whitney Buttars “Bearing My Testimony to the Cast of ‘The Book of Mormon’ Musical” – When The Book of Mormon Musical began its tour in Rochester recently, members of the cast went to learn more about the book their play took its title from. The missionary conducting the tour that day shares her experience. “From the introduction on the first floor through the original bookstore and on to the business office, I nervously regurgitated facts. By the time we reached the third floor, I still didn’t feel as confident as usual. But I realized something. I wasn’t there to prove anything or persuade through logic and facts. All I needed to do is share what I know.”
  • LDS.org “How to Create Your Own LDS Blog– Ideas and suggestions directly from the Church’s website on how to share the gospel more effectively online. “By running your own blog, you have a tremendous opportunity to share your beliefs. LDS.org suggests that bloggers should ‘talk about your day-to-day life. Remember that some who read your blog may not understand traditional ‘Mormon jargon’; be careful to be clear in your writing.'”
  • Candice Steelman “LDS missionaries go to work in San Tan Valley How does missionary work change when a temple goes up in or around your area? Missionaries in Gilbert, Arizona are finding out. “With six weeks of public tours underway for the new Gilbert temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, nearby communities have seen more missionaries in their neighborhoods, ready to answer questions and help people get tickets for the tours”
